Data Centre’s – Enabling Smart Inspections
Provide a digital facility inspection tool for corporate data centers to speed up daily checks and maintain compliance.
The requirement to manage the daily inspections of on-site data centers in a smart way to reduce the amount of paperwork and allow the inspection team to easily capture issues and represent these issues visually in a weekly report. The existing facility checklists had to be digitized and made available on a mobile platform.
The solution
mCollect was implemented and a customised data input form was developed to match the existing paper checklist. The mobile application allows the inspection team to accurately record issues that may arise out of an inspection and to attach incident or query photographs to each checklist, reducing the amount of time required to compile and prepare a checklist for reporting purposes.
Each data room is tagged with a unique code which then allows the application to load the appropriate checklist once the code is scanned at the start of the inspection.
The results
Overall efficiency gains have helped to reduce the inspection time per data center and improve the quality of the reports. Technicians inspecting the data rooms reported feeling more confident in the inspection process and the captured data. The system demonstrates real value in highlighting potential issues and ensuring that these are funneled into the correct resolution process.
