Koruson 2 Cluster – Site Inspections & Monitoring
As the Owners Engineer for the Koruson 2 Cluster, the MPAMOT engineering teams are required to perform daily construction monitoring on the site of several wind farm installations in the Eastern Cape.
Site staff often spend most of their day in the field and are then required to feedback progress, issues and other information into various reporting systems. The Construction Lead for the MPAMOT Renewable Energy team was looking for a solution to improve on the efficiency of site staff reporting, remove the need for paper-based systems and improve the quality of data associated with site photos for reporting purposes. All of this while working in remote areas with patchy internet connectivity.
The solution
Our Digital Solutions team implemented a custom built mCollect inspection app for the site based staff. Using mCollect we were able to digitise existing paper-based checklists and automate the reporting process for the MPAMOT Energy team.
Using features such as pre-populated data fields, offline data capture and media tagging, we were able to deliver a Digital Solution that was readily adopted by the engineering team.
The results
The team measured a 45% gain in efficiency related to data capture by site staff during their daily activities and on average, a 4.5 hour time saving per team member on weekly admin tasks.
Data quality also improved significantly (over 90% improvement measured) by using pre-populated data fields and guided forms.
The goal to remove paper from the site inspections was also achieved with 100% reduction in the use of paper by these teams on site.
