Digital inspection tool – SAFE Schools
Digital site inspection tool for the recording of site data from the SAFE Schools project in South Africa.
A collection of 1400 schools in several provinces within South Africa underwent a site inspection to assess the condition of ablution facilities. The mammoth task needed a smart, digital solution to aid the site inspectors and help reduce the amount of time taken to collect data from each school.
The solution
mCollect was implemented as a digital site inspection tool. The application was customised to include the relevant school district data and inspection code data. Each school inspection required multiple site photographs, GPS coordinates, and completion of a complex set of checklists. This was all done in the mCollect application. Collected data was automatically uploaded into a monitoring dashboard and smart report sheets to provide constant feedback to the project team on the inspection progress.
The results
The traditional method of using paper and pen to conduct these site inspections often resulted in a lot of re-work and second visits to the schools being inspected. With the mCollect solution, re-work due to incorrect data capture was eliminated, saving the project valuable time and improving the accuracy of the assessment data.
